Chief Tom Ross, Gary Johnson, Lieutenant Gary Koehn

Gary has been involved helping the city with emergency prepardness. Gary loves to work for the city and he especially loves to volunteer.

1) How long have you been doing ham radio for the Bountiful City?

Gary thinks it was approved around 2002.  After it was approved, Gary installed all of the equipment at the police department himself, including the antenna on the roof.  Every Thursday night the equipment gets tested with other ham radio operators from Weber to North Salt Lake.

 2) What certifications do you have?

Gary retired from the State of Utah as Head of the Communications Department.  He then worked and retired from AT&T.  He got his ham radio license in 1998.  He’s involved in a ham radio club that meets once a month at Davis County Sheriff’s office with Brad Wilcox facilitating the meeting.  They have approximately 250 members in this club and there’s between 85-100 people that attend their monthly meeting.  Gary also takes part in teaching a ham radio class every other month in North Salt Lake helping the students pass a 300 question test.
